IELTS Preparation Course

Success with IELTS depends on both linguistic competence and on mastering or building the necessary skills for an academic or professional environment in which English is the language of communication. The aim of the course is to exploit a minimum B2 level of English for a minimum target grade of 6 and to further develop the skills necessary for candidates to cope with the four subtests: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Registration is only allowed upon completion of a free placement test, which informs the teacher if the participant needs further language development or they can start the preparation course.

The duration of the course is of 20 weeks, with sessions of two hours throughout the school year, except for school and bank holidays.

The Listening and Reading modules discuss the best techniques to approach written and recorded materials and clarify the types of tasks for these subtests. Participants will work exclusively on exam preparation materials and will focus on the most successful ways to approach the tasks.

The Writing module has two parts, each of them dedicated to one of the two tasks of the test. It approaches and clarifies various aspects related to the format of Task 1, the type of input which candidates are exposed to, the assessment criteria, as well as the format and assessment of Task 2, the essay. Each task will be treated separately and some of the most frequent IELTS topics will be contextualised, in order for the students to build their own work pattern. At the end of each part, participants will write at least one response to each of the two tasks.

The Speaking module discusses strategies to approach the types of questions characteristic to the IELTS test, clarifies the assessment criteria and provides exercises to practise pronunciation, to avoid hesitations, to contribute to the good organisation of ideas (especially for Part 2). The course support relies on audio and video podcasts, as well as on texts on a range of topics, in order to contextualise them and help participants to generate ideas about certain topics, as well as to raise their lexical and grammatical level.

IELTS Individual Mock Tests

Designed for people who have already registered for the IELTS test, as well as for people who are already familiar with the examination they want to take, but who have not yet received specialised feedback on their Writing and Speaking, the mock tests provide detailed feedback, which relies on the Public Band Descriptors, and recommendations for further practice .

For the Writing mock tests, participants receive a full practice test via email. Feedback is provided within three working days, along with comments related to the linguistic and  content-related aspects they need to improve.

The Speaking mock tests are on Zoom and the duration of a session is of 1 hour. They start with a discussion of the Public Band Descriptors, in order to define the board expectations, then there is the mock test, which is followed by feedback. Participants receive immediate feedback, followed by  a written report, within three working days.
